I joined Lemmy back in 2020 and have been using it as @[email protected] until somewhere in 2023 when I switched to lemmy.world. I’m interested in systemd/Linux, FOSS, and Selfhosting.

  • Be aware that the claim that they let this happen on purpose in this article is mainly based on the fact that patrols were cancelled.

According to The Dissident, Shitrit said during his testimony that at 5.20am on 7 October:

We were playing on the phone and suddenly a strange message came up from my deputy commander, … and what he says on the radio is something like this: ‘I don’t know why, but an order was given that there would be no patrols in the (Gaza) fence until 9am

And sure enough, an hour later, at 6.30am, suddenly sirens.

I don’t feel this is as conclusive as they present it to be.

When the program is running it’s probably stored with 32 or 64 bits, but that probably isn’t the case for the network packet layout. I can imagine them wanting to optimize network traffic with over 3 billion users even if it’s just a small improvement.

Also TIL that Erlang’s VM apparently stores strings as linked lists of chars. Very strange.
