It’s really gross how many people think everything in life is a zero sum game. The anti gay marriage folks are like that: if gay people can get married then somehow their own marriage is lesser. If people who aren’t working get healthcare, then it somehow takes away from them. It’s disgusting.

You’re joking, right? Under what standard are words in American English pronounced incorrectly? I mean, let’s just take this example:
They say it that way because in the US that’s how it’s pronounced. The argument that it’s pronounced differently in other countries, so the US way is wrong, is stupid. Even within a language/country, there are regional dialects.
I grew up in the US, but my dad was from England. There were lots of times I said a word the way I had always heard my dad say it, only to have people correct my mispronunciation. The one that pops into my head was capillaries (the little blood vessels). My dad always said ca-PILL-ah-rees, not CA-puh-lar-rees. Neither is wrong, it’s just pronounced differently here and there.
When I check the dictionary, it says in the US it’s pronounced goo-dah.
For a while the fashion was shag carpet with a random splotchy pattern in earth tones. Yes, it did a good job of hiding the dirt, but it was too good at that. I can remember hearing the cat throw up in the other room, going in to clean it up and not being able to find it until, after searching for ages, stepping in it.

I was eating truly obscene amounts of chocolate for a while there. I still eat more than most people, but not so extreme.
When you got diagnosed, was it an “ah hah” moment?
That’s all pretty interesting. I seem to have very little in the way of susceptibility to addiction, though sugar in general (and chocolate specifically) would be a big exception.
I’m not super knowledgeable about ADHD, and because one thing I do know is that it happens on a spectrum, I suppose it’s possible.

I never really did much in the way of drugs. When I was a kid I was given morphine in the hospital, and that made me hallucinate like crazy. When dentists used to use Novocaine, they always had to give me twice as much as they normally would. I only tried pot once, (well, twice, a day or two apart) about a dozen years ago, and I didn’t notice any effect.
To my knowledge I’m not ADHD, though I’m not sure how I’d know if I was.

I wonder if you and I are similar. I wouldn’t say I don’t get drunk; if I drink enough I get all of the non-fun things like being unsteady on my feet, and I wouldn’t be safe to drive. On the other hand, I don’t get any of the fun things people talk about like being more relaxed, getting uninhibited, whatever a “buzz” is, etc.
When I was a kin in the 70s, we had an exchange student from a little town in Sonora Mexico stay with us. His english wasn’t great (though much better than my spanish), but he had this really strange accent. It turned out that he loved old hollywood gangster movies, so he was talking like Edward G Robinson, but with a thick spanish accent over the top.
That is both sad and likely accurate.

That quote really is the problematic part. The part about switches is fine - it’s an attempt to explain tech to a “normie.” But for a tech writer to ever say it’s not clear why they settled on 256 is worse than embarrassing. They had to be corrected by tweets.
Anyone whose ever had an intro to computers class has had a computing professional explain computers using simple language and analogies. That’s the way this kind of thing should work. It sounds like this author has no more clue about computing than the target audience, which isn’t going to work out well for the reader.
My wife and I are both computer geeks, and so our kids were exposed to computers and played computer games from a young age. One day I was playing with our daughter - playing with her dolls - and she said, “I’m going to exit this Barbie and select this one.” Cracked me up because it made perfect sense, but it’s not the way people talk about things IRL.
I’m sure there are a number of “we can’t allow gay sex because we’d all be having it if it was allowed and everyone should resist the sin like me” people, but there really are a lot of folks who feel it takes something away from them if others get what they have. It’s like the mentality of the guy who loves his BMW until his neighbor gets one too, and then he has to get a more expensive car.
